Īs always grateful for any advice from the community, Things I've tried to resolve this - in LiveUSB - GParted - check and rebuild the Grub Configuration File and rebuild Grub with Grub Options and Grub rescue - I've been searching and reading posts all evening. It boots with the Live USB in the port - and doesn't even appear in the BIOS options if the Live USB is not in its port !

Strangely - if the Live USB is in position - then the 1TB SSD appears available as a boot device and boots when its selected.ĭuring that boot sequence it stalls for a while with "Give root password for maintenance" etc which installs after Ctrl D - I expect that's all part of the wider issue. If I leave the BIOS splash screen just wait - I eventually get a message about "The current bios settings do not fully support the root device".Īfter many repeats of booting into the Live USB etc I found out 2 things :įirstly I have to select the boot options for the Live USB by F2 into BIOS and manually select the non-UEFI option for that to boot properly. When I rebooted the new SSD wasn't recognised at all - and when I F2 into the BIOS after a long wait at the splash screen, there is no boot drives at all showing. I've powered down, disconnected my 250GB SSD, removed the Live USB and installed the 1TB SSD - I think I naively expected that to just work - but no - something has gone pear-shaped ! I finally realised that moving the swap to the end allowed that to happen.

That was simple enough but I've spent all afternoon working out how to resize the root partition to use ALL of the unallocated space. I cloned my existing MX Linux 250GB SSD onto my new 1TB SSD using GParted from MX Workbench on the table with a USB 3.0 adaptor. I don't know whats happened but booting my new 1TB SSD has not gone smoothly today !
